The prestigious night of music awards has recently come and gone, as per usual the red carpet was filled with fashion do’s and dont’s that provides plenty of material for social bloggers and celebrity followers to buzz about. From classic and traditional ballgowns to eccentric and sometimes inappropriate clothing, music’s biggest names didn’t hold back when it came to their fashion choices last night at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. A few of my RSS feeds including Perez Hilton and Mashable sites were full of the latest news on who nailed it and who didn’t get away with their fashion endeavours this year. Below are the list of results according to the Facebook rankings by Facebook users on the mashable feed.
Best Dressed Male-
- Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford
- Nas in Brioni
- Adam Lavine in Lanvin
- Miguel in Lanvin
- Chris Brown in Lanvin
Best Dressed Female-
- Katy Perry in Gucci
- Rihanna in Azzedine Alaïa
- Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra
- Beyonce in Osman
- Jennifer Lopez in Anthony Vaccarello
Rihanna surprised the crowds by switching her usually provocative appearance with a demure and sophisticated look on this year’s carpet, wearing a floaty red dress custom made (of course) by Azzedine Alaia. Sheer in the bust without being too revealing, the dress featured a voluminous, concertina effect train that accentuated Rihanna’s skinny figure. Rihanna’s people teamed the gown with Neil Lane jewellery and Monolo Blahnik high heels, while her hair cascaded down over her shoulders in beautifully crafter waves. She was my pick for best dressed and has been ranked first or second by most internet sites all round. ‘I walked in and it was pretty much on the mirror,’ the singer told E! about picking out the gown. ‘This one was just stunning. I loved the colour.’ On the other hand Katy Perry took a much more risque approach wearing a mint green Gucci gown with beading around the neck and a cut out (now labeled ‘tit window’ by various bloggers) on the chest. Her jet black hair contrasted with the mint nicely however I still think Rihanna pulled off her classier look with style and grace to take out the title for best dressed female!
Alternatively their were a few artists almost begging to end up on the worst dress list with The Dream being one singer who didn’t get it right. Doning a hoodie, shades, too much bling and two hats, he went so far wrong no one quite knows how he could of saved himself. On the female side of fashion Instead of looking like an R&B fashionista, Ashanti’s gown makes her look like a superhero who fell into a flowerbed before flying off to the Grammy Awards. When it comes to fashion, you can always depend LMFAO to make a fashion sin and this time it wasn’t spandex but deciding to wear shorts instead of trousers to this prestigious event may have gone a step in the wrong direction.
